Signs You May Need To Be Simplifying Your Side Hustle Business

As entrepreneurs we tend to see the next, shinny, new thing and chase it. On this episode of Side Checks Podcast, I sit down with my former business coach, Stephanie Williams and discuss the magic of simplifying your business. This subject isn’t a natural one for us (or any entrepreneurs) but one we have recently seen pay off in big ways.
Overcomplicating Our Businesses
As side hustlers and business owners, we have the best of intentions when it comes to our businesses. We want to earn income and we get excited about doing it in creative ways. However, this can quickly lead to overcomplicating our business. This results in less conversion and a less than desirable customer experience.
A few signs that you could be overcomplicating your business are:
- A lack of sales
- high website bounce rate
- customer confusion
- a customer not feeling fulfilled
It’s easy to overcomplicate our businesses. This is because we know our offers, our systems, and the results we can give most. So we don’t view our business through the lens of a new client. A new client needs time to digest and access if they are the right fit. And they need clear information to quickly learn how you are, what you do, and the results you can deliver.
Simplifying Our Business Offer Suite
In this episode Stephanie and I discuss simplifying offers. Stephanie walks us through how she has refined and limited the amount of offers over the years to provide a more clear understanding of how she can serve. This also helps her land the clients she only truly wants to work with.
Stephanie and I also discuss a coaching call we had previously walking through a product bundle of mine. We discuss how our new-found love for simplicity caused us to completely alter the offer and provide a clear ROI, or return on investment, for the buyer.
Brand-Crasintation
One thing Stephanie mentions is the term “brand-crastination” and how so many side hustlers can fall victim. Brand-crastination is the act of procrastinating no the actual business side of progress to focus on branding. This is something we have both seen in creative entrepreneurs, including ourselves. After getting this amazing idea, we have a tendency for focusing immediately on the branding, colors, fonts, business names rather than strategic offer refinement.
Attracting Today’s Buyers
Our buying patterns have shifted over the years. Whereas a few years ago, what seems like an attractive purchase was as much content as possible. Today, we feel easily overwhelmed. Instead, we want to receive clear items that we can implement quickly and get results fast.
This is what makes simplifying your business and side hustle key in 2023. When we offer a simple and strong offer suite, we not only attract buyers but our businesses see a higher conversion. The simple offer and simple marketing message decreasing the decision making time for the buyer. This ultimate leads to more money in our pocket.
The Right Way To Scale
Simplifying your business doesn’t mean your business needs to become boring. Or that your business cannot grow. In fact when we optimize our business, that’s when we can see the most growth. Stephanie encourages listeners to “take it slow” when a new idea pops into their head. Instead of adding it to our offer suite immediately, sometimes we need to take a step back to see if it can truly fit into our business and current systems.
