QhYour Business Value Ladder
When it comes to entrepreneurship, there are many things pools we dive into. For example, we think about branding, our website, business cards, and our company name. However, there is one area we tend to overlook, either on purpose or by accident. And that’s sales.
When we think of sales, we think “slimy” or “wrong”. When in fact, sales is the most important area of your business and should never come to you as an afterthought. Therefore, your business value ladder should be at the forefront of your business planning.
Your business ladder is the tier of offers inside your business, product-based or service-based. We refer to your offer suite as a value ladder at times because it represents the ascending pattern of your clients’ journey.
For example, perhaps a client begins investing with you with a lower ticket offer. Then over time, you can naturally progress them to the next, higher tier offer and repeat this cycle. This naturally moves a client up your value ladder while also continuing to serve and problem-solve.
How To Start Building Your Offers
When you’re starting your business, there are a few ways you can begin creating your offers. Your offers will change over time and as your business grows, your value ladder should form. However that doesn’t mean you can’t apply strategy at the beginning of your business.
The #1 place to start for creating your first offer is by creating a free lead magnet to grow an email list. You can use my Free Lead Magnet Workbook to get started. Your email list will be the tool you utilize to begin creating your offers. You can listen to my 30-day strategy for this method right here.
Once your email list is gaining subscribers, it is important that you take action. Email them on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to nurture your newly found audience.
You can nurture your email list by:
- Giving them additional information within your industry
- Provide helpful tips and tricks for the issue they are looking to resolve
- Ask them to give you more information about their issue
- Send them helpful blog posts of yours (or any other long-form content)
- Establish yourself as the expert by giving them more backstory on your journey
You will be using the engagement from these efforts to build your offer suite. Listen to the problems they are having and create an offer from that. My 30-day plan for this breaks down each step.
Keep in mind, that your first offer should solve an attainable problem that the majority of your audience faces. It should be entry-level, provide results, and be at the beginning of your clients journey.
Building Your Ladder From Offer One
Once your first offer is created, you can create your next! This cycle begins to establish your value ladder.
Remember your value ladder is a series of offers, naturally leading into one another, that moves your customer through their client journey. And since your first offer should be created for the beginning of your client journey, your following offers can represent the “next problem” they will face.
Establishing a business value ladder takes time and should not be rushed. The biggest thing you can keep in mind is your client’s journey and what they will need “next”.
A typical value ladder does increase price and customization as you continue. And you will typically have less involvement with higher-priced offers than you do with your first offer or two that cost less.
